Points for part1 of the writing task

Introduction
-Explain what task you did for the AS production and how this one differs from it.(e.g. thriller in iMovie, music video in Final Cut)...

...NOTES;
- music video made in final cut.
- not an opening sequence like previous tasks, there is emphasis on lipsyncing and no need for non-diegetic sound. All sound is contained within the song.

Part One
- Explain briefly how the work came about and what the tasks were. (Talk about final Cut practice in the summer,analysing some real music vids and looking at student examples,talk from promo director, MySpace music range of choices, etc)...
...NOTES;
- talk about how we came up with the idea.
- remember that we originaly had a few different ideas that we posted on the blog so we should look back on them
- remember that at the moment we can only write about what we hope to achieve with the doll as we haven't shot that part of the footage yet.
- looked on myspace to see what we could find out about our chosen artist.

Which band/artist did your group choose and why ? (give some positive reasons here)...
...NOTES;
- looked on myspace to see what we could find out about our chosen artist.
- chose the song because we all liked the song the best, and thought it had a good beat that we could work with, as a group we probably suit the faster paced songs
- myspace gave us the lyrics

How did you ‘pitch’ for them ? (summarise briefly)...
...NOTES;
- all groups in a class picked a different song so we didn't have to.

Where did you get your ideas from ? cite/use and explain actual examples as shown on your blog !...
...NOTES;
- ideas from, adverts on tv, pre-existing music videos, and also trying to think of ideas based on the lyrics... aka- friends are false so the doll we plan to use acts as a 'false friend'.

What tasks had to be done in the research and planning phase? How were these handled and what could have been done to improve them ? (talk about storyboarding, animatic, organising places, props, equipment, people)...
...NOTES;
- practice lipsync on a pre-existing vid that was chopped up.
-look at music videos and music video directors
-student videos
-looking at the band, checking out their style/how they present to the public, official band websites, check out live performances, youtube.
-storyboard- not very detailed
-animatic- to vague
-handled by blogging
- organising the doll has proved difficult as we found it does attract unwanted attention which can distract from filming.

How did the group come to decisions about approaches to the tasks to be completed? (what range of options did you consider and why did you opt for the choices you made?)...
...NOTES;
- read notes that we have already written.

What roles did the various people in the group take on ? Concentrate particularly on your role in the various activities....
...NOTES;
-all played pretty equal roles except oli is the only one opf us actually featuring in the video.

Talk about any test footage you shot. What did you learn from doing these tests and from the animatic ?...
...NOTES;
- test camera shots (as in photographs) alerted us to the fact that the doll draws attention to itself so we need to/ needed to be aware of that when filming.
- animatic showed that there wasn't that much going on in our video that would keep with the beat of our music- it wasnt fast enough in its pace.

Write about the shoot. What went well/badly ? what could you have done differently ?...
...NOTES;

Consider your early editing and how you reached the rough cut stage. Outline this process and discuss decision-making you undertook....
...NOTES;

What does the group feel about the rough cut ? what still needs to be done ?...

ROUGH CUT

Youtube (billie jean video)

Embedding was disabled

There is a transition in this video which puts 3 different screens in one, simular to the way oli is playing all the parts of the band (3 in one) so the action appears to be happening all at once. Evidence of this is in our rough cut.

First Filming Session

Our first filming session didnt go exactly to plan, but we managed to get very strong footage of the band scene and a few cut aways related to the performance.
We had planned on our first session to start filming some of the narrative, involving the story of the false friend blow up doll. We then realised that this wasnt possible as Oli's truck wasnt available to us on this day. We decided that it would be best to film all of the narrative at once so we didnt want to just miss out the shots that would of involved the truck, therefore we decided we would film something else instead. We rang our friend and arranged to go to his house to film our band scene. We decided we wanted Oli playing every person in the band all at the same time. We sorted out all of the props to take round (all of olis different outfits, bass, microphone, lyrics written down etc) and went over and set up all the equipment in his room such as drums and where the three different oli characters would stand. We had to make sure everything stayed in exactly the same place so that we could overlay them all to crop parts away and leave three different versions of Oli all together.
We also had the problem that we didnt have our cd with us, which meant we had to find a video of the song on youtube and play this loudly from the computer in the other room to film it.
I think our filming went very well though and we made the best use of the time we had even though we couldnt do our original plan. We also filmed several cut scenes whilst we had everything set up.

Planning Blog Peer Assessment Feedback

_Feedback states that we have...
...lots of pictures of the doll; good planning and editing; and lots of research.

_Evidence from the blog supports that our group has completed background research, organised personnel, locations & equipment for shooting & developed ideas since initial concept...
...the feedback examples of this were; good band research; excellent equipment list.

_Our assessment question- What do you think we are missing from our blog?...
...Video analysis; location shots & location planning

_Overall assessment- What marking level(s) other groups thought our blog would get...
...4 other groups all gave us a Level 3: Proficient planning 17-23 marks. This is out of a possible 4 levels so we can now aim to improve our blog using the feedback we have received.
